Mark-Free 2 mm Sheet Bending with a V16 Rolla-V Tool
Surface scratches and bending marks are a common concern when forming stainless steel, aluminum and other appearance-sensitive sheet metal. With conventional fixed V-dies, the sheet moves across the die shoulders during bending, creating sliding contact that can damage the surface.
For this application, WYS Machinery manufactured a long V16 Rolla-V press brake tool, typically used for bending 2 mm sheet metal.

How Does Rolla-V Prevent Surface Scratches?
Unlike a conventional fixed V-die, the Rolla-V structure uses movable supporting elements that rotate with the sheet during the bending process.
As the punch pushes the sheet downward, the Rolla-V elements move with the material instead of forcing the sheet to slide across fixed die shoulders. This significantly changes the contact condition between the workpiece and lower die and helps prevent surface scratching during bending.
The result is a mark-free bending solution suitable for sheet metal parts where surface appearance needs to be protected.
Rolla-V vs. Roller Multi-V Die
Although both tooling designs use moving elements to reduce friction, their application targets are different.
A Roller Multi-V Die uses rollers at the V-opening to reduce sliding friction and minimize scratches. It is also useful for heavy plate bending because the roller structure can reduce wear on the die.
A Rolla-V Tool is specifically selected when preventing surface scratches is a primary requirement. Its movable V structure provides better surface protection for appearance-sensitive sheet metal.
This distinction is important when selecting tooling according to the required surface quality.

V16 for 2 mm Sheet Bending
The tooling shown in this application uses a V16 opening, which is typically selected by WYS Machinery for this 2 mm sheet bending application.
Actual V-opening selection should still be determined according to the material, thickness, bending radius, angle and forming requirements of the workpiece.
Custom Mounting Interfaces Available
The tooling shown here uses a 2V-style mounting structure, but the Rolla-V working principle is not limited to this interface.
WYS Machinery can modify the tooling design according to the customer's press brake and clamping system. Compatible mounting configurations can be manufactured for different machine and tooling systems, including TRUMPF Type, WILA Type, BYSTRONIC Type and LVD Type interfaces.
Customers can provide their machine information, tooling interface dimensions and workpiece drawings. Our engineering team can modify the design and manufacture the Rolla-V tooling according to the actual bending application.
