Typical Applications
This 85° R0.25 precision press brake upper punch is specifically developed for sheet metal applications requiring a small bending radius, narrow tooling geometry, and increased workpiece clearance.
Typical applications include:
- Thin sheet metal bending
- Closed-profile bending
- Semi-closed profile bending
- Precision sheet metal fabrication
- Narrow flange bending
- Deep channel and box-shaped components
- Components with restricted tooling access
- Electrical enclosures and control cabinets
- Precision brackets and small metal components
- Stainless steel thin-sheet bending
- Carbon steel thin-sheet bending
- Complex and multi-step bending operations
The R0.25 tip radius provides a much smaller forming radius than the R1 configurations in our product range. This makes the tooling particularly suitable for applications where the workpiece requires a small inside bend radius and precise forming geometry.
The 6 mm narrow load-bearing section also provides additional space around the workpiece. This is particularly beneficial when bending closed or semi-closed components, where conventional wider tooling may interfere with previously formed sections.
For thin sheet metal, the combination of a small tip radius and narrow working structure provides a more specialized solution for precision forming. Actual bending results will depend on material type, sheet thickness, material condition, bending method, die opening, and machine parameters.
The tooling can be manufactured for applications involving major press brake brands and systems, including Amada, TRUMPF, LVD, Bystronic, and WILA, subject to the specific machine and tooling interface.
Product Details & Manufacturing Quality
This precision punch is manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel, providing high strength, toughness, wear resistance, and durability for repeated press brake bending operations.
The working section is heat treated to approximately HRC 54 ± 2, helping maintain dimensional accuracy and wear resistance during production.
The key feature of this tooling is its R0.25 ultra-small tip radius. Compared with larger-radius punches such as R1, the smaller radius allows the punch to create a more compact forming geometry and is particularly suitable for precision bending of thinner sheet materials.
The 6 mm load-bearing section further improves the accessibility of the tooling around the workpiece. This makes the punch suitable for closed profiles, narrow openings, deep channels, and complex geometries where a standard wider punch may have insufficient clearance.
With a 50 ton/m load capacity, the punch is designed for appropriate thin-sheet and light-to-medium-duty applications. The actual allowable bending force should always be determined based on the workpiece material, thickness, bending length, die opening, bending method, and press brake specifications.
Standard & Custom Press Brake Tooling
We provide standard press brake tooling and customized bending tools for both conventional and specialized sheet metal applications.
For thin sheet or closed-profile components, tooling geometry can have a significant impact on bending accessibility and forming results. A standard R1 punch may not always provide the desired bend radius or clearance.
Customers can send us their 2D/3D workpiece drawings, bending drawings, samples, or machine information. Our engineering team can provide a free press brake tooling design service and recommend a suitable punch and die combination.
Customization options include:
- Overall tooling height
- Total tooling width
- Load-bearing section width
- Tip radius
- Tip width
- Punch angle
- Tooling length
- Clearance and relief areas
- Special interference-avoidance structures
- Gooseneck punches
- Special-shaped punches
- Machine-specific tooling dimensions
- Customized upper and lower tooling sets
For thin-sheet and closed-profile applications, we can also evaluate bend radius, workpiece clearance, flange interference, bending sequence, tooling accessibility, and machine compatibility before production.
This enables us to provide a complete custom press brake tooling solution based on the actual workpiece rather than relying only on standard tooling dimensions.
