Custom Multi-Stage Forming Solution for Door Panel Manufacturing
Door panels can contain complex edge profiles and formed sections that are difficult to produce efficiently with conventional single-step bending operations. This custom forming tool was developed to combine multiple forming actions into a controlled production process for door panel manufacturing.
The forming sequence begins at the upper section of the lower die, where the sheet metal undergoes the first forming operation. After the initial profile is created, the workpiece is moved to the side forming position of the tooling for the next operation.
At this stage, two forming areas are processed simultaneously, allowing the required door panel profile to be produced efficiently while maintaining dimensional consistency between the formed sections.
This combined forming process places much higher demands on the tooling than a conventional press brake bending die.
High Forming Accuracy
Because the different forming positions must work together to create the final profile, dimensional relationships between the individual tooling surfaces are critical. Accurate machining and assembly help ensure that each forming stage correctly matches the previous operation and that the finished door panel maintains the required geometry.
High Tool Strength and Rigidity
Simultaneous forming at multiple positions creates complex loads within the tooling. The die structure therefore needs sufficient strength and rigidity to resist deformation during repeated production while maintaining stable forming accuracy.
Reliable Part Stripping
Part release is another important challenge in this application. After complex forming, the sheet metal can grip or become tightly engaged with the tooling surfaces. The tool structure and stripping mechanism must therefore be designed so that the finished workpiece can be released smoothly without damaging the formed profile or interrupting the production cycle.
Combining Multiple Forming Operations
Instead of treating every profile as an independent conventional bending operation, custom tooling can integrate multiple forming functions into a more efficient manufacturing process. This can reduce handling between operations while improving repeatability for complex door panel profiles.
This type of tooling solution can be considered for metal doors, steel door panels, industrial doors, cabinet panels, enclosure panels and other sheet metal components with complex formed edges or profiles.
WYS Machinery develops custom sheet metal forming tooling according to customer drawings, workpiece geometry, material thickness, forming sequence and machine conditions. For special components that cannot be efficiently produced with standard tooling, the forming process and tooling structure can be developed together to achieve the required profile, accuracy, strength and production stability.
