Custom Spring-Loaded Hemming Tool for Sheet Metal Hemming

Hemming is a common sheet metal forming process used to fold an edge back onto itself, creating a flattened or closed edge. It is widely used where a smoother edge, increased edge stiffness or specific finished profile is required.
This spring-loaded hemming tool manufactured by WYS Machinery combines bending and hemming functions in a customized press brake tooling system. The tooling can first perform the required pre-bending operation and then flatten the folded edge to complete the hemming process.
Spring-Loaded Hemming Structure
Unlike a pneumatic hemming tool that uses an external pneumatic system, this version uses a spring-loaded mechanical structure.
During operation, the spring mechanism allows the tooling components to move according to the forming sequence and return to their original position after the bending cycle. This provides a relatively simple and practical hemming solution without requiring an additional pneumatic control system.
WYS Machinery can manufacture both spring-loaded hemming tools and pneumatic hemming tools according to the customer's press brake, workpiece and production requirements.
Customized V-Opening and Die Angle
The V-opening and bending angle are not limited to one standard configuration. They can be designed according to the sheet material, thickness, required pre-bending angle and final hemming geometry.
Different tooling profiles can therefore be manufactured for specific sheet metal hemming applications.
Custom Tooling Structure and Length
As shown in this application, the complete hemming tool can be manufactured in long working lengths for large sheet metal components.
According to customer requirements, we can customize:
- V-opening and bending angle
- Upper and lower tooling profiles
- Spring-loaded hemming structure
- Tool height and overall dimensions
- Working length and segmentation
- Mounting and press brake compatibility
- Tooling configuration according to workpiece drawings
For special hemming applications, the tooling design can be developed according to the customer's sheet thickness, material, finished profile, press brake configuration and required working length.
Spring-Loaded or Pneumatic Hemming Solutions
Different production requirements may require different hemming mechanisms. Spring-loaded hemming tools provide a mechanically simple solution, while pneumatic hemming systems can be considered when the application requires a different opening, return or operating method.
WYS Machinery can evaluate the customer's part drawing and bending requirements to develop a suitable custom hemming tooling solution.
