Description
17-Groove Mixed-Angle Multi-V Press Brake Lower Die
This multi-V press brake lower die integrates 17 physical V-grooves into a 120 × 120 mm tooling body, providing seven different V-opening sizes and two different groove-angle systems within one lower die.
The illustrated configuration includes:
V6 · V8 · V12 · V16 · V20 · V24 · V32
with several V-opening sizes repeated at different working positions.
A defining feature of this product is its mixed-angle configuration. The four V16 grooves use a 30° acute-angle geometry, while the V6, V8, V12, V20, V24 and V32 grooves use 85° geometry.
This allows one multi-V lower die to combine conventional sheet metal bending grooves and acute-angle forming grooves without requiring every working position to use the same die angle.
The illustrated die has an overall cross-section of 120 × 120 mm and a rated load capacity of 100 ton/m.
The drawing also indicates an R1.50 groove radius on the acute-angle section, demonstrating that groove radius can be engineered together with V-opening size and groove angle.
The configuration shown here represents one manufacturing example only. WYS Machinery can customize the V-opening sizes, groove quantities, individual groove angles, radii, positions, overall dimensions and mounting structure according to the customer's actual bending requirements.

17-Groove Multi-V Structure
The tooling provides 17 physical V-grooves using seven different V-opening sizes.
The groove distribution is:
V6 × 2
V8 × 2
V12 × 3
V16 × 4
V20 × 2
V24 × 2
V32 × 2
Therefore:
17 physical grooves ≠ 17 different V-opening sizes.
Instead:
17 physical grooves = 7 different V-opening sizes.
Repeated V-openings can be positioned at different locations to provide convenient working orientations or to match a specific production range.
Mixed 30° and 85° Groove Geometry
The most distinctive feature of this tooling is that the working grooves do not all use the same angle.
The four V16 openings use 30° geometry, while the other V-openings use 85° geometry.
This enables one multi-V lower die to provide two different forming functions.
85° Working Grooves
The 85° grooves provide conventional forming options for a broad range of general sheet metal bending applications.
30° V16 Grooves
The 30° V16 openings provide acute-angle tooling geometry and can be used, depending on the punch and forming sequence, for applications such as:
- Acute-angle bending
- Pre-bending
- Over-bending for springback compensation
- Multi-stage forming
- Hemming preparation
- Special forming processes
The final punch-and-die combination should always be selected according to the material, thickness, required bend geometry and forming method.
V6 to V32 Working Range
The seven V-opening sizes provide a broad range of forming options.
V6 and V8 provide smaller forming openings for applications requiring relatively narrow V-widths.
V12 and V16 cover intermediate forming ranges, with V16 additionally providing the special 30° acute-angle geometry in this configuration.
V20 and V24 provide additional forming clearance for larger natural bend radii and different sheet thickness ranges.
V32 provides the largest V-opening in this illustrated configuration.
The appropriate V-opening should always be selected according to material strength, sheet thickness, required inside radius, flange geometry, bending force and forming method.
Individual Groove Angles Can Be Customized
A multi-V lower die does not need every working groove to use one common angle.
This product demonstrates that different V-opening sizes and different groove angles can be combined within the same tooling body.
Depending on the bending requirements, customers can specify:
- 30° acute-angle grooves
- 60° grooves
- 85° grooves
- 88° grooves
- Other customized groove angles
Different working positions can therefore be designed for different forming processes rather than forcing the complete multi-V tool to use one standard angle.
Same 120 × 120 mm Body, Different Multi-V Designs
The external dimensions of a multi-V die do not determine its groove configuration.
Different 120 × 120 mm multi-V dies can vary in:
- Number of physical grooves
- Number of different V-opening sizes
- Repeated groove quantities
- V-opening dimensions
- Groove positions
- Groove angles
- Groove radii
- Working-face layouts
- Shoulder geometry
This particular 120 × 120 mm configuration combines 17 grooves with mixed 30° and 85° geometry, while another tool with the same outer dimensions can use a completely different V-opening range or groove strategy.
This flexibility allows the tooling to be designed around the customer's actual production requirements.
Advantages of a Mixed-Angle Multi-V Die
Multiple Forming Functions in One Tool
Conventional 85° grooves and acute-angle 30° grooves are integrated into one lower die.
17 Working Positions
The high groove count provides multiple selectable forming positions.
Seven V-Opening Sizes
V6 through V32 provide different forming ranges for different sheet metal applications.
Reduced Separate Tooling
Different V-opening sizes and angles can be combined within one tool instead of requiring a separate lower die for every forming condition.
Custom Angle Combination
The angle of individual V-grooves can be specified independently according to the customer's production requirements.
