Description

6-Groove V8 / V16 / V24 / V32 / V40 / V48 Multi-V Press Brake Lower Die

This multi-V press brake lower die integrates six independent V-grooves into a compact 75 × 75 mm tooling body.

The illustrated configuration includes six different V-opening sizes:

V8 · V16 · V24 · V32 · V40 · V48

Each V-groove is arranged on a different position or working face of the die body, allowing the required opening to be selected according to the sheet thickness, desired inside bend radius, material properties and forming process.

The V48 groove shown on the upper working face is manufactured with an 85° angle in this configuration. The remaining groove geometry follows the illustrated tooling design, while groove angles can also be customized independently according to the customer's bending requirements.

With a rated load capacity of 100 ton/m, this multi-V die provides a wide range of bending options within one lower tooling body.

An important characteristic of multi-V tooling is that the same external die dimensions do not define one fixed groove configuration. Two 75 × 75 mm multi-V dies can have completely different V-opening sizes, groove positions and angles depending on the customer's production requirements.

The configuration shown here therefore represents one manufacturing example rather than a fixed catalog limitation.

WYS Machinery can customize the number of V-grooves, V-opening sizes, groove angles, groove positions, working-face arrangement, overall dimensions, load capacity, tooling length, segmentation and mounting structure according to the actual bending application.

Six-Groove Multi-V Structure

The defining feature of this lower die is its six-groove multi-V configuration.

Instead of providing only one or two working openings, six different V-grooves are integrated into one tooling body:

V8 → V16 → V24 → V32 → V40 → V48

This provides a broad progression from relatively small to much larger forming openings.

The operator can select the appropriate working groove by positioning the multi-V die so that the required V-opening becomes the active bending surface.

This allows one lower die to cover a much broader forming range than a conventional single-V or double-V die.

V8 to V48 Working Range

The six V-openings provide different forming characteristics.

V8

The smallest V-opening in this configuration provides a relatively narrow forming width for applications requiring smaller bend radii and thinner material.

V16

The V16 opening provides additional forming clearance and covers a broader range of general sheet metal bending requirements.

V24

The V24 groove expands the usable forming range for applications requiring a medium V-opening.

V32

The larger V32 opening provides greater forming clearance and supports applications requiring larger natural inside bend radii.

V40

The V40 groove extends the tooling range further toward larger V-opening applications and thicker sheet bending.

V48

The V48 groove provides the largest opening in this illustrated configuration and is shown with an 85° groove angle.

The appropriate V-opening should always be selected according to:

  • Sheet thickness
  • Material grade
  • Tensile strength
  • Required inside bend radius
  • Bend angle
  • Flange dimensions
  • Required forming force
  • Bending method

Multi-V Groove Position and Angle Flexibility

A multi-V lower die is not defined only by its external dimensions.

Even when two dies have the same 75 × 75 mm cross-section, their actual bending capabilities can be completely different because the following parameters may vary:

  • Number of V-grooves
  • V-opening sizes
  • Groove positions
  • Groove angles
  • Groove-bottom geometry
  • Shoulder geometry
  • Working-face arrangement

This means that two multi-V dies with identical external dimensions can be designed for very different sheet-thickness ranges and bending processes.

The illustrated V8 / V16 / V24 / V32 / V40 / V48 configuration is therefore one example of the design possibilities rather than a fixed standard.

Advantages of a 6-Groove Multi-V Die

The six-groove structure provides several practical advantages.

Wide V-Opening Range

Six different V-openings allow one lower tool to cover a much wider range of bending requirements.

Reduced Tooling Inventory

Multiple forming openings within one die can reduce the number of separate single-V lower dies required in the workshop.

Faster Tooling Selection

The appropriate working face can be selected according to the current bending requirement without replacing the entire tooling body with another single-V die.

Flexible Mixed Production

The V8-to-V48 range provides flexibility for production involving different sheet thicknesses, bend radii and component specifications.

Custom Groove Configuration

The groove size, position and angle do not need to follow one fixed catalog arrangement and can be designed around the customer's production range.

Typical Applications

This 75 × 75 mm 6-groove multi-V lower die is suitable for:

  • General sheet metal fabrication
  • Mixed-thickness bending
  • Thin, medium and thicker sheet production
  • Carbon steel bending
  • Stainless steel bending
  • Electrical cabinet manufacturing
  • Industrial enclosure production
  • Machinery and equipment fabrication
  • Structural sheet metal components
  • High-mix manufacturing
  • Small- and medium-batch production
  • Applications requiring several V-opening sizes
  • Production where reducing separate lower-die changes improves tooling efficiency

Same External Size, Different Multi-V Configurations

Different multi-V dies can share the same external dimensions while having completely different working geometry.

For example, two 75 × 75 mm multi-V dies may differ in:

V-opening size · V-opening position · groove angle · number of grooves · working-face layout

This means that the external cross-section should not be treated as the only defining specification of a multi-V lower die.

The tooling should instead be designed according to the customer's:

  • Sheet thickness range
  • Material types
  • Required inside bend radii
  • Bend angles
  • Available press brake tonnage
  • Production mix
  • Existing tooling system

This design flexibility makes multi-V tooling particularly suitable for customized sheet metal production environments.
