Typical Applications

This specialized 85° R1 press brake upper punch with a 15 mm reduced load-bearing section is designed for applications where additional clearance between the tooling and workpiece is required.

Typical applications include:

  • Precision sheet metal bending
  • CNC press brake bending
  • Bending of narrow or recessed workpieces
  • Components with nearby flanges or formed features
  • Complex sheet metal profiles
  • Stainless steel and carbon steel bending
  • Electrical cabinets and enclosures
  • Machinery and equipment components
  • Precision brackets and structural components
  • Multi-step bending operations
  • Applications where standard punch geometry may cause workpiece interference

The reduced 15 mm load-bearing section creates additional space around the tooling during the bending operation. This allows portions of the workpiece to have more room to move or pass around the punch, helping minimize potential interference between the workpiece, punch, and previously formed sections.

This type of clearance-oriented tooling can be particularly useful when bending parts with narrow flanges, offset features, recessed sections, or complex geometries.

The tooling can be supplied for press brake systems and applications associated with major brands including Amada, TRUMPF, LVD, Bystronic, and WILA, subject to the machine and tooling interface requirements.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel, this press brake upper punch is designed to withstand repeated bending operations while maintaining reliable mechanical strength and dimensional stability.

The working area is heat treated to approximately HRC 54 ± 2, providing a suitable balance between hardness, wear resistance, and toughness.

The tooling combines an 85° punch angle, R1 tip radius, 6 mm tip width, and 15 mm load-bearing section. Compared with a conventional wider load-bearing structure, the reduced section provides additional clearance around the workpiece during bending.

This structural design is particularly valuable when the workpiece has formed features, narrow flanges, recessed areas, or other geometries that may interfere with conventional tooling.

The 80 ton/m rated capacity provides sufficient strength for a wide range of industrial sheet metal bending applications. Actual bending force and tooling selection should be evaluated according to material type, sheet thickness, bending length, die opening, bending method, and machine capacity.

Standard & Custom Press Brake Tooling

We provide standard press brake tooling as well as custom-designed punches and dies for special bending requirements.

A standard punch is not always the best solution for complex workpieces. If your component has a special shape, narrow flange, recessed section, or potential tooling interference, you can send us your 2D/3D drawing, bending drawing, or existing tooling information.

Our engineering team can provide a free press brake tooling design service and evaluate the workpiece geometry to recommend a suitable tooling structure.

We can customize:

  • Overall tooling height
  • Total tooling width
  • Load-bearing section width
  • Punch angle
  • Tip radius
  • Tip width
  • Tooling length
  • Clearance and relief areas
  • Special interference-avoidance structures
  • Gooseneck punches
  • Special-shaped punches
  • Machine-specific tooling dimensions
  • Customized upper and lower tooling sets

For special applications, we can also help optimize tool clearance, bending sequence, workpiece interference, flange clearance, and tooling geometry before manufacturing.

This makes our tooling suitable not only for standard sheet metal bending, but also for complex and customized CNC press brake forming applications.
