Description

V12 / V20 85° Offset-Mount Double-V Press Brake Lower Die

This double-V press brake lower die, also known as a 2V lower die, integrates V12 and V20 openings into one tooling body.

Both V-grooves are manufactured at an 85° die angle and are arranged side by side on the same working surface.

The illustrated configuration has an overall width of 50 mm, an overall height of 46 mm, and a rated load capacity of 80 ton/m.

The combination of V12 and V20 provides two distinct forming widths within one lower tool. The V12 groove offers a smaller V-opening for applications requiring a relatively smaller natural inside bend radius, while the larger V20 groove provides additional forming clearance and can accommodate different material thicknesses and bending requirements.

A key structural feature of this lower die is its offset mounting configuration. The plug-in mounting interface is positioned so that its centerline is offset relative to the working V-groove positions.

This differs from a centered lower-die configuration, where the active working V-groove is aligned with the mounting centerline.

The combination of a same-surface double-V layout and offset mounting geometry provides a practical tooling solution for press brake systems where the lower die position, holder geometry or existing machine interface requires this centerline relationship.

The V12 / V20 configuration shown here represents one available design rather than a fixed manufacturing limitation. V-opening combinations, angles, overall dimensions, mounting centerline positions and complete lower-die profiles can all be customized according to customer requirements.

Same-Surface Double-V Configuration

The V12 and V20 grooves are positioned side by side on the same working surface.

This configuration allows two different V-opening sizes to be integrated into one lower die while maintaining a compact tooling body.

A same-surface arrangement is practical when sufficient spacing and supporting material can be maintained around both V-grooves.

For larger V-opening combinations where the available top surface becomes insufficient, WYS Machinery can also manufacture two-face double-V dies, positioning the V-grooves on separate working faces.

This allows the lower-die structure to be selected according to the required V-opening combination rather than being limited to one fixed design.

Offset Mounting Configuration

The illustrated V12 / V20 lower die uses an offset mounting configuration.

The centerline of the plug-in mounting interface is offset relative to the working V-groove positions rather than using a conventional centered relationship.

This type of structure may be required according to:

  • Lower die holder geometry
  • Press brake table configuration
  • Existing tooling interface
  • Required working position
  • Workpiece clearance
  • Machine centerline requirements
  • Customer-specific installation dimensions

WYS Machinery can manufacture both offset and centered lower-die configurations according to the actual machine and tooling interface.

V12 and V20 Working Openings

The V12 opening provides a medium forming width for sheet metal bending applications requiring a relatively smaller V-opening.

The larger V20 opening provides greater forming clearance and can be selected for applications involving greater material thickness, a larger natural inside bend radius or a requirement for reduced bending force compared with a smaller V-opening under otherwise comparable conditions.

Combining V12 and V20 within one lower die provides two useful forming ranges for production involving different:

  • Sheet thicknesses
  • Material grades
  • Required inside bend radii
  • Part geometries
  • Bending processes
  • Production batches

The appropriate V-opening should always be selected according to the actual material, thickness, tensile strength, required bend geometry and forming method.

Typical Applications

This V12 / V20 double-V lower die is suitable for:

  • General sheet metal bending
  • Thin and medium sheet fabrication
  • Mixed-thickness production
  • Carbon steel bending
  • Stainless steel bending
  • Electrical enclosure manufacturing
  • Control cabinet production
  • Machinery covers and housings
  • Industrial sheet metal components
  • Applications requiring V12 and V20 forming options
  • Press brake systems requiring an offset lower-die mounting position

Why Combine V12 and V20 in One Lower Die?

V12 and V20 provide two different forming ranges within one tooling body.

The smaller V12 groove can be selected for bending jobs requiring a narrower V-opening, while the larger V20 groove provides greater clearance for different sheet thicknesses and bend-radius requirements.

Integrating both V-openings into one double-V die can:

  • Increase tooling flexibility
  • Reduce the number of separate lower dies required
  • Provide two forming ranges within one tooling body
  • Improve tooling utilization in mixed-production environments
  • Simplify lower-tool selection for different bending jobs

The appropriate groove should always be selected according to the actual bending application.

Plug-In Lower Die Mounting System

The illustrated lower die uses a plug-in mounting system.

The bottom mounting profile engages with the corresponding lower die holder or press brake table interface to provide positioning and support during bending.

In this design, the mounting profile uses an offset centerline relationship relative to the working V-grooves.

The illustrated plug-in structure represents one reference configuration only.

WYS Machinery can customize:

  • Plug-in profile
  • Mounting dimensions
  • Offset position
  • Centerline relationship
  • Overall die cross-section
  • Tool length
  • Segmentation
  • Centered or offset mounting configuration

according to the customer's existing press brake and tooling system.
