Description

V20 / V32 85° Centered Two-Face Double-V Press Brake Lower Die

This two-face double-V press brake lower die integrates V20 and V32 openings, with both V-grooves manufactured at an 85° die angle.

Unlike conventional double-V dies where both grooves are positioned side by side on the same working surface, the V20 and V32 grooves are arranged on separate working faces of the die body.

The illustrated configuration has an overall width of 50 mm, an overall height of 46 mm, and a rated load capacity of 100 ton/m.

This structure is particularly useful when the required V-openings become relatively large or when the groove geometry makes a same-surface arrangement impractical. Large V-openings require adequate shoulder width and supporting material around the working groove. Placing the two grooves on different working faces allows the available die cross-section to be used more efficiently while maintaining structural support around each V-opening.

Another defining feature of this model is its centered mounting configuration. When the selected V-opening is positioned for bending, the centerline of the active V-groove is aligned with the centerline of the mounting interface.

This differs from an offset lower die configuration, where the working V-groove centerline is intentionally displaced from the mounting centerline.

The two-face arrangement allows V20 and V32 working openings to be incorporated into one tooling body while providing practical tooling flexibility, structural rigidity and efficient use of the die cross-section.

The V20 / V32 dimensions shown here represent one available design. V-opening combinations, groove angles, overall dimensions, working-face arrangement and mounting structures can all be customized according to the customer's press brake and bending requirements.

Two-Face Double-V Structure

The V20 and V32 grooves are positioned on different working faces rather than being placed next to each other on a single surface.

This structural arrangement can be advantageous when:

  • The required V-openings are relatively large
  • Same-face groove spacing becomes restricted
  • More shoulder material is required around the V-grooves
  • The tooling body needs additional structural support
  • A compact die body is preferred
  • Two different forming ranges are required within one lower tool

By distributing the V-openings across separate working faces, the die can use its cross-section more effectively while maintaining sufficient material around each working groove.

Centered Mounting Configuration

The relationship between the working V-groove centerline and the mounting centerline is an important feature of this lower die.

In the illustrated configuration, when the required V-opening is placed in the active working position:

the centerline of the V-groove is aligned with the centerline of the plug-in mounting interface.

This is a centered mounting configuration.

It differs from an offset lower die structure where the V-groove centerline is intentionally positioned away from the mounting centerline.

Depending on the press brake, lower die holder and bending application, WYS Machinery can manufacture:

  • Centered mounting structures
  • Offset mounting structures
  • Other customized positioning configurations

This allows the tooling geometry to be matched to the customer's existing machine rather than requiring the customer to adapt to one fixed die profile.

V20 and V32 Working Openings

The V20 opening provides a medium-to-large forming width for sheet metal bending applications requiring additional forming clearance and a larger natural bend radius than smaller V-openings.

The larger V32 opening provides even more forming clearance and is suitable for applications involving thicker material, larger inside bend radii or reduced forming force compared with a smaller V-opening under otherwise similar bending conditions.

Integrating V20 and V32 into one two-face lower die provides two useful forming ranges within a single tooling body.

The appropriate V-opening should always be selected according to:

  • Sheet thickness
  • Material grade
  • Tensile strength
  • Required inside bend radius
  • Bend angle
  • Flange dimensions
  • Forming force
  • Bending method

Typical Applications

This V20 / V32 centered two-face lower die is suitable for:

  • General sheet metal bending
  • Medium and thicker sheet fabrication
  • Mixed-thickness production
  • Carbon steel bending
  • Stainless steel bending
  • Machinery and equipment manufacturing
  • Electrical cabinet fabrication
  • Industrial enclosure production
  • Structural sheet metal components
  • Applications requiring medium and larger V-openings
  • Production requiring different inside bend radii
  • Press brake systems requiring centered lower-tool alignment

Why Use Separate Working Faces?

Conventional double-V dies normally place two V-grooves next to each other when sufficient space is available.

However, as V-openings become larger, a same-face arrangement can create geometric limitations such as:

  • Insufficient spacing between grooves
  • Reduced shoulder material
  • Limited support around the V-opening
  • An unnecessarily wide die body
  • Less efficient use of the available die cross-section

A two-face double-V structure provides an alternative solution.

By positioning the V20 and V32 grooves on separate working faces, the tooling can combine two relatively large V-openings while maintaining a compact and structurally practical die body.

Plug-In Lower Die Mounting System

The illustrated lower die uses a plug-in mounting system.

The mounting profile engages with the corresponding lower die holder or press brake table interface to provide positioning and support during bending.

When another V-opening is required, the die can be repositioned so that the selected groove becomes the active working surface.

The illustrated plug-in geometry represents one reference configuration only.

WYS Machinery can customize:

  • Plug-in mounting profile
  • Mounting dimensions
  • Centerline position
  • Centered or offset mounting
  • Overall die cross-section
  • Tooling length
  • Segmentation

according to the customer's press brake and existing lower tooling system.
