Description

This WILA American Style 28° acute-angle top tool is developed for deep acute bending and the pre-bending stage of sheet metal hemming. Its narrow working profile allows the sheet to be formed beyond a conventional right angle when paired with a suitable acute-angle lower die.

The punch has a compact 98 mm working height, a 30 mm body width and an R1 mm tip radius. This combination provides accurate bend-line positioning while retaining a maximum rated load of 100 ton/m.

Its 12.7 mm upper tang fits compatible American Style clamping systems. The bending force is transferred through the tool shoulders, supporting stable seating and accurate alignment during production.

Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel and hardened to HRC54±2, the punch provides reliable strength, dimensional stability and resistance to tip wear.

Typical Applications

This American Style 28° punch is suitable for:

  • Deep acute-angle sheet metal bending
  • Pre-bending before flattening or hemming
  • Forming open, closed or teardrop hems through multiple stages
  • Folded safety edges on panels and covers
  • Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
  • Metal doors and equipment housings
  • HVAC panels and ventilation components
  • Appliance and metal-furniture parts
  • Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium fabrication
  • CNC hydraulic and servo-electric press brakes

In a typical hemming process, this punch creates the initial acute fold. The workpiece is then transferred to a flattening die, hemming table or dedicated hemming tool to complete the required edge.

The correct lower-die opening must be selected according to the material grade, sheet thickness, required inside radius and final hem profile. The bending force must remain within the rated capacities of the upper punch, lower die, clamping system and press brake.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The punch is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel, providing a dependable balance of strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. Its working area is hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to wear and deformation during repeated acute-angle forming.

Precision machining maintains the accuracy of the 28° working profile, R1 mm tip and shoulder-loaded mounting surfaces. Consistent geometry supports stable installation, accurate punch-to-die alignment and repeatable bending results.

Because acute bending concentrates forming pressure around a relatively narrow tool tip, the punch radius and lower-die opening should be checked against the material thickness and ductility. This is particularly important when bending stainless steel, high-strength material or components with demanding inside-radius requirements.
