Description
This WILA Type U-profile hemming die is the matching lower tool for customized U-profile hemming punches. Together, the punch and die support the pre-bending, U-profile forming and final flattening of narrow folded sheet-metal components.
The displayed lower die features a 10 × 59 mm U-opening and is commonly used with approximately 1.2 mm sheet. Other typical configurations include an 8 mm U-opening for approximately 1.0 mm sheet and a 12 mm U-opening for approximately 1.5 mm sheet.
With a working height of 79 mm, R1 mm internal radius and maximum load capacity of 50 ton/m, the die provides a stable lower forming profile for repeatable production. It is manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel and hardened to HRC54±2.
The displayed dimensions represent one reference configuration. U-opening width and depth, die height, body width, radius, mounting structure and matching upper punch can all be customized according to the finished workpiece.

Working with the Matching Hemming Punch
This lower die is used with a matching U-profile hemming punch as part of a customized punch-and-die system.
During forming, the upper punch enters the U-shaped opening to control the position, width and depth of the folded profile. Depending on the component design, the tooling can be used for acute pre-bending, U-profile forming or final flattening.
The displayed 10 mm die can be matched with either a standard-height or high-reach U-profile hemming punch. The upper-tool height should be selected according to the component depth, side-wall clearance and press brake daylight.
Typical Applications
This U-profile hemming lower die is suitable for:
- Narrow U-shaped sheet-metal profiles
- Double-folded and reinforced edges
- Pre-bending and flattening thin sheet metal
- Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
- Metal doors and access panels
- Machinery covers and protective guards
- HVAC and ventilation components
- Appliance sheet-metal parts
- Metal furniture and storage cabinets
- Automotive and transportation components
- Customized folded-edge profiles
- Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium sheet
Product Details & Manufacturing Quality
The U-shaped opening and internal radii are precision machined to maintain consistent clearance with the matching hemming punch. Accurate punch-to-die alignment helps control the finished U-profile width and improves forming repeatability.
The die is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel. Its working surfaces are hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to wear, indentation and deformation during repeated production.
The forming force must remain within the rated capacities of the upper punch, lower die, clamping system and press brake. The finished component drawing should be evaluated before confirming the U-opening, internal clearance and forming sequence.
