Description

This WILA Type 30° V6 lower die is a precision single-V press brake die developed for acute-angle bending, thin-sheet forming and hemming preparation. Its narrow 6 mm V-opening supports a relatively small bending radius and concentrated bend-line control, making it suitable for precision components with small flanges or compact profiles.

The 30° die angle allows the workpiece to be formed to a much sharper included angle than conventional 78°, 85°, 86° or 88° lower dies. It can be paired with a suitable acute-angle upper punch for deep acute bending or used during the first stage of a multi-step sheet metal hemming process.

In a typical hemming operation, an acute-angle punch and this 30° lower die create the initial pre-bend. The workpiece is then transferred to appropriate flattening or hemming tooling to complete an open, closed or teardrop hem.

The die has a working height of 55 mm and a 17 mm lower mounting section, giving an approximate overall height of 72 mm. Its 25 mm body width creates a compact lower-tool profile, while the 13 mm bottom tang is designed for compatible WILA Type die clamping arrangements.

Manufactured from high-strength 42CrMo alloy tool steel and hardened to HRC54±2, this V6 lower die provides dependable dimensional stability, wear resistance and repeatability during production.

Typical Applications

This WILA Type 30° V6 lower die is suitable for:

  • Precision bending of thin sheet metal
  • Deep acute-angle bending below 90°
  • Pre-bending before flattening or hemming
  • Producing small inside bend radii
  • Forming narrow flanges and compact profiles
  • Open, closed and teardrop hemming processes
  • Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
  • Small sheet metal boxes and trays
  • HVAC and ventilation components
  • Stainless steel, mild steel and aluminium components
  • Precision electronics and instrument housings
  • CNC hydraulic and servo-electric press brake applications

The V6 opening is generally intended for relatively thin sheet metal, but the permissible material thickness depends on material tensile strength, required inside radius, bend length and forming method. The required bending force must remain within the rated capacities of the lower die, upper punch and press brake.

When this die is used for hemming, it performs the acute pre-bending stage rather than the final flattening operation. Suitable flattening or hemming tooling is required to complete the folded edge.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The lower die is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy tool steel, providing a dependable balance of strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. The working area is hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to wear, indentation and deformation during repeated production.

Precision machining maintains the accuracy of the 30° V-groove, 6 mm opening and R1 mm shoulder radius across the complete die length. Accurate groove geometry helps maintain stable bend-line positioning and consistent forming results in batch production.

The R1 shoulder radius supports smooth material movement into the V-groove during bending. Correct tool alignment and an appropriate upper-punch radius remain important, particularly when forming thin stainless steel or other materials that may be sensitive to marking or cracking.

The lower die can be supplied in continuous lengths or customized segmented sets. Segmented dies offer additional flexibility for bending boxes, trays, localized hems and components with complex geometry.
