Description

This WILA American Style 90° gooseneck top tool is designed for sheet metal components that require a compact punch-tip radius and additional clearance around previously formed flanges. Its recessed profile helps prevent interference when producing boxes, enclosures, return bends and other multi-bend components.

The punch has a 100 mm working height and an R0.8 mm tip radius, providing concentrated bend-line control for suitable sheet-metal applications. Its 90° working angle can be used for forming open bends and specific bottom-bending applications when paired with an appropriate lower die.

The 12.7 mm upper tang fits compatible American Style clamping systems. Bending force is transmitted through the tool shoulders, providing stable seating and reliable load transfer. The punch is rated for a maximum load of 100 ton/m.

Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel and hardened to HRC54±2, this gooseneck punch provides dependable strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability for repeatable press brake production.

Important Note About the 90° Punch Angle

A 90° punch does not automatically produce a finished 90° bend in every application. During air bending, material springback may cause the released workpiece angle to remain greater than 90°.

The finished angle depends on:

  • Material grade and tensile strength
  • Sheet thickness
  • Lower-die angle and V-opening
  • Punch penetration
  • Inside bend radius
  • Air bending, bottom bending or coining method

Where springback compensation is required, an acute-angle punch may be more suitable. The tooling combination and forming method should be confirmed according to the workpiece drawing and material specifications.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The punch is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel to provide a reliable balance of strength, toughness and fatigue resistance. Its working area is hardened to HRC54±2, improving resistance to tip wear and deformation during repeated production.

Precision machining controls the 90° working angle, R0.8 mm tip radius, mounting tang and shoulder surfaces. Accurate geometry supports stable clamping, consistent tool alignment and repeatable bending results.

The recessed gooseneck body creates space around previously formed parts of the workpiece. However, actual usable clearance depends on the flange height, workpiece angle, bend position and forming sequence. The component drawing should therefore be checked before the final tooling profile is selected.

The required bending force must remain within the rated capacities of the punch, lower die, clamping system and press brake.
