Typical Applications
This 85° R1 press brake upper punch with double-side clearance is designed for workpieces where conventional press brake tooling may cause interference during bending.
Typical applications include:
- Small sheet metal components
- Precision sheet metal bending
- Narrow flange bending
- Restricted-access bending
- Complex sheet metal profiles
- Components with nearby flanges
- Parts requiring clearance on both sides of the punch
- Small brackets and formed components
- Electrical and electronic enclosures
- Machinery components
- Precision industrial parts
- Multi-step bending operations
- Complex CNC press brake forming
The key structural feature is the 13 mm load-bearing section. Compared with a conventional wider structure, the reduced working section creates additional space around the tooling.
This design provides a certain amount of clearance on both sides of the punch, allowing portions of the workpiece to move into the available space during bending.
This can be particularly useful for workpieces with:
- Narrow flanges
- Existing bends
- Offset sections
- Recessed areas
- Small openings
- Complex profiles
- Multiple bending steps
The 6 mm tip width also provides a compact working point, making this tooling suitable for smaller components and precision bending applications.
The tooling can be manufactured for press brake systems and applications involving Amada, TRUMPF, LVD, Bystronic, and WILA, subject to the machine's specific tooling interface.
Product Details & Manufacturing Quality
This punch is manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel, providing high strength, toughness, wear resistance, and durability for repeated industrial bending operations.
The working section is heat treated to approximately HRC 54 ± 2, helping maintain dimensional accuracy and wear resistance during production.
The main design characteristic is the combination of a 6 mm tip width and 13 mm load-bearing section. This creates a narrower working structure while maintaining a 150 mm overall tooling height.
The reduced load-bearing width provides additional clearance on both sides of the punch, which can help minimize interference between the tooling and workpiece.
Compared with the previous 6 mm tip / 80 ton/m configuration, this tooling has a more specialized clearance-oriented structure and a lower 40 ton/m load capacity. It is therefore better suited to applications where tool accessibility and workpiece clearance are more important than maximum bending force.
The 40 ton/m capacity should be considered when selecting this punch. Actual allowable bending force must be evaluated according to material type, sheet thickness, bending length, die opening, bending method, and press brake specifications.
Standard & Custom Press Brake Tooling
We provide standard press brake tooling and custom-designed punches and dies for different bending requirements.
This type of clearance-oriented punch is particularly suitable when the customer encounters interference with conventional tooling.
If your workpiece has a special shape or requires additional space around the punch, you can send us your 2D/3D drawing, bending drawing, sample, or existing tooling information.
Our engineering team can provide a free press brake tooling design service and analyze the workpiece geometry to determine the most suitable tooling structure.
Customization options include:
- Overall tooling height
- Total tooling width
- Load-bearing section width
- Tip width
- Tip radius
- Punch angle
- Tooling length
- Front and rear clearance
- Side clearance
- Relief structures
- Interference-avoidance structures
- Gooseneck punches
- Special-shaped punches
- Machine-specific tooling
- Customized upper and lower tooling sets
For complex workpieces, we can also evaluate tool interference, front/rear clearance, side clearance, bending sequence, flange geometry, and required bending force before manufacturing.
This allows us to develop a custom press brake tooling solution based on the customer's actual workpiece, rather than relying solely on standard tooling dimensions.
