Description
The WYS 28° heavy-duty Bystronic-type straight punch is designed for acute-angle bending, pre-bending and other demanding sheet-metal forming applications. It has an overall height of 250 mm, a slim 20 mm body, an R3 tip radius and a maximum load capacity of 140 ton/m.
Many Bystronic-type punches can be installed in two orientations, allowing operators to select different front- and rear-side clearance profiles. However, this straight punch has an essentially symmetrical working body, so reversing its mounting direction does not provide a different clearance advantage.
For this reason, the upper clamping tang uses a simplified reinforced design instead of the conventional reversible profile. This structure increases the effective load-bearing area around the clamping section, improves rigidity and contributes to the punch’s 140 ton/m load capacity.
The tall 250 mm profile provides extended working reach, while the narrow 20 mm body helps maintain clearance during deep or complex bending operations. Its 28° acute-angle tip can be used for sharp-angle forming and pre-bending processes, including applications where the workpiece will subsequently be flattened or hemmed with suitable tooling.

The actual bending capacity depends on the sheet material, tensile strength, thickness, die opening, bending method and working length. The calculated bending force should always remain within the rated capacity of both the punch and die.
Product Details / Manufacturing Quality
This punch differs from many conventional Bystronic-type upper tools in the design of its clamping tang. Asymmetric punches may be mounted in opposite orientations to provide different front- and rear-side clearance. Since this straight punch offers essentially the same clearance in both directions, a reversible asymmetric mounting profile is unnecessary.
The simplified clamping design retains more material in the upper load-transfer area. This creates a stronger load path between the press brake ram and the punch body, improving rigidity and supporting a maximum load capacity of 140 ton/m.
Its 250 mm height provides additional working reach for deep components, while the narrow 20 mm body helps reduce interference with the workpiece. The R3 tip offers greater strength and durability than a very small-radius acute punch, making it suitable for demanding production environments.
Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel, the tool provides high strength, toughness and resistance to deformation. Precision machining and controlled heat treatment help maintain mounting accuracy, consistent punch geometry and repeatable bending performance.
