Description
The JFY Type B Station RE5X30 Thin Turret Punch Tooling is a complete rectangular punch and die set developed for compatible thin turret punch presses, particularly machines using JFY-style tooling configurations.
“RE5X30” is the tooling shape designation: “RE” identifies the rectangular profile, while “5X30” represents the nominal punch dimensions of 5 × 30 mm. The tool can be used to produce rectangular holes and slots or perform progressive parting and edge-trimming operations according to the customer’s sheet metal component design.
JFY, also known as Jiangsu Jinfangyuan CNC Machine Co., Ltd., became part of the TRUMPF Group following TRUMPF’s acquisition of a majority share in 2013. JFY and TRUMPF continue to operate as different machine brands serving different market segments. This tooling is manufactured by WYS Machinery as compatible replacement tooling and is not presented as original JFY or TRUMPF tooling.
Compared with thick turret tooling, thin turret tooling uses a different station interface, overall structure and installation configuration. Tooling should therefore be selected according to the actual machine model rather than only by the B Station designation or RE5X30 profile.
The RE5X30 punch is manufactured from M2 high-speed steel to provide cutting-edge toughness, wear resistance and reliable performance under repeated impact. The matching lower die is manufactured from DC53 tool steel for compressive strength, dimensional stability and resistance to chipping. The working components are heat-treated to HRC 58–60.
The lower-die opening is manufactured according to the required punch-to-die clearance. Although the punch has a nominal 5 × 30 mm profile, the actual die opening must include suitable clearance based on the processed sheet material, thickness and required edge quality.
WYS Machinery can manufacture the tooling according to the customer’s machine model, existing tooling samples, technical drawings or finished-part drawings. Optional TiN and TiCN coatings are available for demanding materials and high-volume production.

Thin Turret Tooling Compatibility
Thin turret and thick turret tooling are not interchangeable. Even when two tools have the same B Station designation and RE5X30 cutting profile, their body dimensions, mounting interfaces, guides, retainers and installation structures may be different.
Before production, customers should provide:
- Punch press manufacturer
- Exact machine model
- Existing tooling series
- Station information
- Existing tooling drawing or sample
- Sheet material
- Sheet thickness
- Required rectangular profile
- Tool orientation
- Finished-part drawing
This information allows WYS Machinery to confirm whether the tooling dimensions and installation features are suitable for the customer’s machine.
Rectangular Hole and Slot Punching
The RE5X30 profile can produce a nominal 5 × 30 mm rectangular opening in a single punching stroke when the material, thickness and machine capacity are suitable.
Typical functions include:
- Rectangular ventilation slots
- Cable and connector openings
- Mounting slots
- Assembly interfaces
- Locating features
- Tab insertion openings
- Functional rectangular holes
- Repetitive slot patterns
The finished hole size and edge condition may be affected by material properties, die clearance, tool wear and elastic recovery.
Parting and Edge-Trimming Applications
The RE5X30 rectangular profile can also be used as a parting tool. The CNC punch press progressively positions the sheet so that adjacent strokes form a continuous cutting path.
This method is suitable for:
- Trimming sheet metal edges
- Separating components from surrounding material
- Producing blanks with specified external dimensions
- Cutting short straight edges
- Removing excess perimeter material
- Parting adjacent components in a nested layout
- Correcting panel length or width
The tooling does not cut all four edges simultaneously. Each edge is progressively processed according to the programmed tool path.
Customized Die Clearance
Every lower die can be manufactured with clearance selected according to the customer’s sheet material and thickness.
The actual lower-die opening is determined by adding the specified clearance to the nominal 5 × 30 mm punch profile.
Clearance selection considers:
- Sheet material
- Sheet thickness
- Material tensile strength
- Required edge quality
- Acceptable burr height
- Punching frequency
- Lubrication
- Tool coating
- Machine alignment
- Production requirements
Correct die clearance helps reduce excessive punching force, control burr formation, improve fracture consistency and extend the service life of the punch and die.
Typical Hits Before Regrinding
| Sheet Material | Approximate Hits Before Regrinding |
|---|---|
| Stainless Steel | Approximately 300,000 hits |
| Mild Steel | Approximately 500,000 hits |
These values are general reference figures rather than guaranteed limits. Actual regrinding intervals depend on material strength, thickness, punch-to-die clearance, lubrication, machine alignment, punching speed, stroke overlap and maintenance conditions.
Parting applications may produce different wear patterns from single-hit rectangular punching because adjacent strokes often overlap.
Typical Tool Service Life
| Tool Profile | Approximate Total Service Life |
|---|---|
| Round Tooling | Approximately 800,000 hits |
| Shaped Tooling | Approximately 600,000–700,000 hits |
| RE5X30 Rectangular Tooling | Refer to the Shaped Tooling Range |
RE5X30 is classified as shaped tooling. Actual service life depends on the complete punch-and-die combination and the operating conditions.
Optional TiN and TiCN Coatings
TiN Coating
TiN provides a hard, low-friction surface that helps reduce material adhesion and general cutting-edge wear. It is a practical option for mild steel and general-purpose sheet metal punching.
TiCN Coating
TiCN offers higher hardness and improved resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear. It is particularly useful for stainless steel, higher-strength materials and demanding production volumes.
Coating selection should be based on the processed material, sheet thickness, punching frequency, lubrication and required tool life.
Typical Applications
The JFY Type B Station RE5X30 thin turret punch tooling is suitable for manufacturing:
- Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
- Switchgear and distribution equipment
- Sheet metal housings and panels
- Electronic equipment cabinets
- HVAC and ventilation components
- Metal furniture and storage systems
- Machinery guards and protective covers
- Automotive sheet metal components
- Mounting plates and brackets
- General precision sheet metal products
It is suitable for customers operating compatible JFY thin turret punch presses and requiring replacement rectangular punch tooling for slots, rectangular holes, parting cuts or edge trimming.
Manufacturing Quality
The punch and die are manufactured using selected tool steels, controlled heat treatment, precision machining and finish-grinding processes.
Quality inspection can include:
- Rectangular punch-profile measurement
- Cutting-edge straightness inspection
- Die-opening measurement
- Customized clearance verification
- Working-hardness testing
- Station-dimension inspection
- Tool-orientation confirmation
- Guide and punch alignment checking
- Surface-finish inspection
- Trial assembly and movement testing
Accurate alignment between the punch and lower die helps reduce uneven cutting loads, excessive burrs and localized wear along the 30 mm cutting edge.
Maintenance and Regrinding
The tooling should be inspected regularly for:
- Cutting-edge rounding
- Corner chipping
- Uneven wear
- Material adhesion
- Excessive burr formation
- Slug-pulling problems
- Guide wear
- Punch and die misalignment
Regrinding should be performed before excessive edge wear affects hole quality or increases punching force. After regrinding, the punch length and tooling setup should be adjusted according to the machine and tooling requirements.
