Description

The KJ-7-S Double-Sided Side-Loading Press Brake Quick Clamp is designed for flexible upper tooling arrangements and efficient multi-process sheet metal production. It features two clamping faces, allowing compatible press brake punches to be installed on both the front and rear sides of the clamp.

Different punch profiles or tooling sets can be arranged in opposite directions on the same press brake. This makes it possible to prepare the machine for different products or bending processes without repeatedly removing and reinstalling the complete upper tooling setup.

Compared with the KJ-6-S, the KJ-7-S has an increased working height of 120 mm. The additional height can help configure the required press brake shut height and provide a suitable connection between the ram and upper tooling.

Another defining feature is its grooveless upper mounting interface. There is no conventional clamping groove at the top of the holder. Instead, the press brake ram clamping plate directly grips the front mounting plate of the KJ-7-S to secure the complete quick clamp to the machine.

Compatible upper punches are installed horizontally from the side of the clamping line. After the punch is inserted and positioned, the mechanical lever operates the quick-clamping mechanism to lock or release the tool. This model does not support vertical punch insertion or downward removal.

The KJ-7-S has a clamp width of 150 mm and is manufactured primarily from 45# carbon steel. Precision-machined mounting, locating, and clamping surfaces support accurate installation and repeatable upper tool positioning.

Double-Sided Tooling Arrangement

The KJ-7-S provides independent front and rear clamping positions for compatible press brake upper tools. Punches can be installed in opposite directions according to the required bending processes and production layout.

This configuration allows different tooling profiles to remain prepared on the same press brake. When production changes between suitable bending operations, the alternative tooling arrangement can reduce the need for a complete punch replacement.

The double-sided structure is particularly useful for manufacturers producing multiple part types, performing several bending processes, or working with small production batches that require frequent setup changes.

Direct Ram Clamping Plate Mounting

The upper section of the KJ-7-S does not use a conventional clamping groove. Its flat mounting plate is positioned against the press brake ram, and the machine’s clamping plate grips the front surface directly to secure the quick clamp.

This direct pressure-plate mounting method provides a straightforward mechanical connection between the press brake ram and the clamp. The ram clamping plate, mounting-hole positions, plate thickness, gripping area, and working height must match the KJ-7-S installation interface.

Customers should provide a drawing or detailed dimensions of the press brake ram and clamping plate before ordering so that mounting compatibility can be verified.

Horizontal Side-Loading Design

Compatible punches must be inserted horizontally from the side of the KJ-7-S. The upper tool is slid along the clamping line until it reaches the required position and is then secured using the mechanical quick-clamping lever.

Unlike the KJ-6-S, this model does not allow the upper punch to be inserted upward from below or removed vertically downward. Adequate side access must therefore be available for tool installation and removal.

Side loading provides a stable and straightforward installation method for compatible full-length and segmented upper tooling, particularly where vertical tool loading is not required.

Mechanical Quick-Clamping Operation

The KJ-7-S uses a manual lever to control the locking and releasing action. Once the compatible punch has been inserted from the side and positioned correctly, the operator moves the handle to mechanically secure the tool.

The clamp requires no hydraulic pump, compressed-air supply, electrical controls, or external power circuit. Its mechanical construction simplifies installation and routine maintenance while providing faster operation than conventional screw-only clamps.

Multiple Tooling Sets for Improved Productivity

By arranging different upper tool sets on the front and rear clamping faces, the KJ-7-S can help prepare a press brake for different products or bending processes.

This configuration can reduce:

  • Repeated removal and installation of complete punch sets
  • Non-productive machine setup time
  • Tool transportation and handling
  • Repeated punch and die alignment
  • Production interruptions between suitable bending processes
  • Operator workload during frequent tooling changes

The actual operating method depends on the press brake design, machine access, lower tooling arrangement, safety requirements, and production process.

Precision and Manufacturing Quality

Critical mounting, clamping, and locating surfaces are precision-machined to support accurate upper tooling installation. Key dimensional tolerances are controlled within ±0.02 mm, with parallelism and perpendicularity maintained within 0.02 mm.

This precision helps maintain stable alignment between the press brake ram, upper punch, and lower die, supporting consistent bending results across the machine’s working length.

The main components are manufactured from 45# carbon steel to provide the strength and structural rigidity required for repeated mechanical clamping and regular press brake operation.

Typical Applications

  • CNC and conventional hydraulic press brakes
  • Double-sided upper tool clamping systems
  • Front- and rear-mounted punch arrangements
  • Side-loading press brake tooling
  • Multiple tooling sets on one press brake
  • Multi-process sheet metal bending
  • High-mix, low-volume production
  • Electrical cabinet and enclosure manufacturing
  • Metal doors, panels, and equipment housings
  • HVAC and ventilation component fabrication
  • Carbon steel and stainless steel bending
  • Press brake clamping system replacement or upgrades
  • Applications requiring a 120 mm clamp working height

Compatibility and Installation Requirements

Compatibility must be confirmed according to the press brake ram profile, ram clamping plate, mounting-hole positions, gripping thickness, available clamping area, upper punch tang, tool orientation, and side-loading clearance.

Because the KJ-7-S does not have a conventional upper clamping groove, it should only be installed where the ram pressure plate can safely and securely grip its front mounting plate.

Customers should provide:

  • Press brake make and model
  • Ram cross-section drawing
  • Ram clamping plate dimensions
  • Mounting-hole positions
  • Existing clamp dimensions
  • Upper punch tang profile
  • Required tooling orientations
  • Available side-loading clearance

Customization and Technical Support

WYS Machinery can evaluate the customer’s press brake ram, clamping plate, upper tool profile, and production process before recommending a suitable quick-clamping solution.

Working height, mounting dimensions, plate configuration, hole positions, clamping interface, and other structural details can be customized according to the machine and tooling requirements. Customers can send machine drawings, existing clamp samples, upper tool drawings, or clear installation photographs for technical evaluation.
