Description
V12 / V32 85° Two-Face Double-V Press Brake Lower Die
This double-V press brake lower die combines a V12 opening and a V32 opening, both manufactured at an 85° die angle.
Unlike conventional 2V lower dies where two V-grooves are positioned next to each other on the same upper working surface, this design places the V12 and V32 openings on two separate working faces of the die body.
The illustrated configuration has an overall width of 50 mm, an overall height of 46 mm, and a rated load capacity of 100 ton/m.
This two-face arrangement is particularly useful when the two V-openings differ significantly in size. If a small V-opening and a much larger V-opening are positioned too close together on the same surface, available shoulder material, groove spacing and die-body geometry can become restricted.
By distributing the two V-grooves across separate working faces, the die can maintain a more practical cross-section with sufficient supporting material around each V-opening. This helps improve tooling utilization, structural rigidity and practical operation while still providing two different V-opening options in one lower die.
The illustrated version uses a plug-in mounting system. To change between the V12 and V32 working openings, the tooling is repositioned so that the required V-groove becomes the active working surface.
The V12 / V32 design shown here represents one available configuration. Different V-opening combinations, die angles, overall dimensions, capacities and mounting interfaces can be customized according to the customer's bending requirements.

Two-Face Double-V Structure
The most important feature of this lower die is the two-face V-groove arrangement.
The V12 groove is positioned on one working face, while the larger V32 groove is positioned on another face of the die body.
This type of configuration can be advantageous when:
- The two required V-openings differ greatly in size
- A large V-opening requires more shoulder space
- Two grooves cannot be efficiently arranged on the same working surface
- Additional supporting material is required around the V-grooves
- Die-body rigidity needs to be maintained
- Two V-opening options are required without using two completely separate lower dies
Instead of excessively reducing the material between adjacent grooves, the two-face structure distributes the V-openings across different sides of the tool.
This provides a more practical solution for combining small and large V-openings within one lower die body.
V12 and V32 Working Openings
The V12 opening provides a smaller die opening for bending applications requiring a smaller natural inside radius and reduced V-width.
The significantly larger V32 opening provides increased forming clearance and is suitable for applications involving thicker sheet material, larger inside bend radii or lower forming pressure under otherwise comparable bending conditions.
Because the difference between V12 and V32 is substantial, arranging the two grooves on separate working faces provides more space around each groove than a conventional side-by-side double-V configuration.
The appropriate V-opening should always be selected according to:
- Sheet thickness
- Material grade
- Tensile strength
- Required inside bend radius
- Bend angle
- Flange dimension
- Forming force
- Bending method
Typical Applications
This V12 / V32 two-face double-V lower die is suitable for:
- General sheet metal bending
- Mixed-thickness sheet production
- Applications requiring both small and large V-openings
- Carbon steel bending
- Stainless steel bending
- Machinery and equipment fabrication
- Electrical cabinet manufacturing
- Structural sheet metal components
- Production involving different inside bend radii
- Applications requiring a larger V-opening without sacrificing a smaller V-groove option
- Press brake production where reducing the number of separate lower dies can improve tooling utilization
Why Use Separate Working Faces?
When two V-openings are relatively close in size, they can often be arranged side by side on the same working surface.
However, when the difference between the V-openings becomes much larger, such as V12 and V32, a conventional adjacent-groove layout may require a wider die body or leave insufficient material between and around the V-grooves.
A two-face configuration provides another solution.
By positioning the V-openings on separate working faces, the tooling can:
- Accommodate a much larger difference between V-opening sizes
- Maintain adequate die-body material
- Provide stronger support around each V-groove
- Use the available die cross-section more efficiently
- Provide two working V-openings within one tooling body
The exact structure should be determined according to the V-opening combination, required load capacity and tooling dimensions.
Plug-In Lower Die Mounting System
The illustrated lower die uses a plug-in mounting system.
The bottom mounting profile provides a defined interface with the corresponding lower die holder or press brake table system.
When a different V-opening is required, the die can be repositioned so that the selected working face is oriented correctly for bending.
The plug-in profile shown here represents one reference structure only.
WYS Machinery can customize the lower die mounting configuration according to the customer's:
- Press brake model
- Existing lower die holder
- Tooling standard
- Existing tooling drawing
- Existing tooling sample
- Required mounting dimensions
Custom Double-V Press Brake Dies
WYS Machinery manufactures standard and customized double-V press brake lower dies, including conventional same-face designs and special two-face configurations.
The V12 / V32 tooling shown here is one design example rather than a fixed manufacturing limitation.
Customers can customize:
V-opening combination, V-groove angle, groove arrangement, overall height, overall width, shoulder geometry, die-body cross-section, load capacity, tooling length, segmented length and mounting interface.
For special applications, customers can provide:
- Workpiece drawings
