28° V14 Spring-Loaded Hemming Die for 1.8 mm Sheet Metal
This spring-loaded hemming die is designed for sheet metal components that require an acute pre-bend followed by a final flattening or hemming operation.
The tooling shown incorporates a 28° V14 acute bending opening together with a spring-supported movable die structure.
During the first operation, the sheet metal edge is formed to an acute angle using the V14 opening.
For the second operation, the pre-bent workpiece is repositioned into the flattening area. As the press brake ram moves downward, the movable tooling section is compressed while the machine provides the force required to flatten the folded edge.
After the ram retracts, the internal springs return the movable section to its original position, preparing the tooling for the next production cycle.
This mechanical two-stage design integrates acute bending, flattening and automatic return in one compact press brake hemming tool.
Two-Stage Hemming Process
First Operation – 28° Acute Pre-Bending
In the first press brake stroke, the sheet is bent using the 28° V14 opening.
This produces the acute preliminary bend required before the final hemming operation.
Second Operation – Spring-Assisted Flattening
The pre-bent edge is then positioned in the flattening section of the tooling.
During the second stroke, the press brake applies the required forming load while the movable die section compresses against the spring system.
The folded edge is progressively flattened until the required hem geometry is achieved.
Automatic Spring Return
When the ram retracts, the stored spring force restores the movable tooling section to its initial position.
This automatic mechanical return makes the tooling ready for the next cycle without requiring pneumatic actuation.

Working Principle
The spring-loaded hemming die performs the hemming process in two press brake operations.
First, the sheet metal is bent to an acute angle using the 28° V14 opening.
The pre-bent flange is then repositioned into the flattening area.
During the second operation, the press brake ram applies the required forming force while the moving section of the tooling travels against the internal spring system.
The folded edge is flattened to the required final condition.
After the press brake ram retracts, the springs restore the moving tooling section to its original position.
