Description

V16 / V40 85° Centered Two-Face Double-V Press Brake Lower Die

This two-face double-V press brake lower die combines V16 and V40 openings, with both working grooves manufactured at an 85° die angle.

Unlike conventional double-V dies where two grooves are positioned side by side on the same working surface, the V16 and V40 grooves are arranged on separate working faces of the die body.

The illustrated configuration has an overall width of 50 mm, an overall height of 50 mm, and a rated load capacity of 100 ton/m.

This structure is useful when the required V-openings become relatively large or differ substantially in size. The V40 groove requires more shoulder width and surrounding die-body material than a smaller V-opening. Arranging both grooves on the same narrow working surface can restrict groove spacing, reduce supporting material or require a wider die body.

By distributing the V16 and V40 openings across separate working faces, the lower die can use its available cross-section more efficiently while maintaining practical structural support around each V-groove.

Another important feature is the centered mounting configuration. When the selected V-opening is positioned for bending, the centerline of the active V-groove is aligned with the centerline of the plug-in mounting interface.

This differs from an offset mounting structure, where the working V-groove centerline is intentionally displaced from the mounting centerline.

The V16 / V40 design shown here is one available configuration only. V-opening combinations, groove angles, overall dimensions, working-face arrangements, load capacities and mounting structures can all be customized according to customer requirements.

Two-Face Double-V Structure

The V16 and V40 grooves are positioned on different working faces rather than being arranged side by side on the same surface.

This configuration can be beneficial when:

  • The V-opening sizes differ substantially
  • A larger V-opening requires additional shoulder width
  • Same-face groove spacing becomes restricted
  • More supporting material is required around the V-grooves
  • A compact overall die width is preferred
  • Two different forming ranges are required within one lower tool

By distributing the grooves across different working faces, the tooling can combine a V16 opening and a much larger V40 opening while maintaining a practical die cross-section.

Centered Mounting Configuration

The illustrated lower die uses a centered mounting configuration.

When the selected V-opening is placed in the active working position:

the centerline of the active V-groove is aligned with the centerline of the plug-in mounting interface.

This centered structure differs from an offset lower die configuration where the V-groove centerline is intentionally shifted away from the mounting centerline.

Depending on the customer's press brake, die holder and tooling requirements, WYS Machinery can manufacture:

  • Centered mounting configurations
  • Offset mounting configurations
  • Other customized positioning structures

V16 and V40 Working Openings

The V16 opening provides a medium V-opening for applications requiring a relatively smaller natural inside bend radius and narrower forming width.

The larger V40 opening provides substantially more forming clearance and is suitable for applications involving:

  • Thicker sheet material
  • Larger natural inside bend radii
  • Wider forming requirements
  • Reduced forming force compared with smaller V-openings under otherwise similar conditions
  • Bending jobs where additional workpiece clearance is required

The final V-opening should be selected according to:

  • Sheet thickness
  • Material grade
  • Tensile strength
  • Required inside bend radius
  • Bend angle
  • Flange dimensions
  • Forming force
  • Bending method

Typical Applications

This V16 / V40 centered two-face lower die is suitable for:

  • General sheet metal bending
  • Mixed-thickness production
  • Medium and thicker sheet fabrication
  • Carbon steel bending
  • Stainless steel bending
  • Machinery and equipment manufacturing
  • Electrical cabinet fabrication
  • Industrial enclosure production
  • Structural sheet metal components
  • Applications requiring medium and large V-openings
  • Production requiring different inside bend radii
  • Press brake systems requiring centered lower-tool alignment

Why Use Separate Working Faces?

When two V-openings are relatively similar in size, both can often be positioned side by side on a single working surface.

However, when the difference becomes much larger, such as V16 and V40, a same-face arrangement may create geometric limitations including:

  • Insufficient spacing between V-grooves
  • Reduced shoulder material
  • Limited support around the larger groove
  • Excessive overall tooling width
  • Less efficient use of the available die-body section

A two-face double-V structure provides a practical alternative.

By positioning V16 and V40 on separate working faces, the lower die can maintain sufficient material around both grooves while keeping the tooling body compact and structurally efficient.

Plug-In Lower Die Mounting System

The illustrated lower die uses a plug-in mounting system.

The bottom profile engages with the corresponding lower die holder or press brake table interface to provide positioning and support during bending.

When another V-opening is required, the die can be repositioned so that the selected groove becomes the active working surface.

The illustrated plug-in geometry is only one reference configuration.

WYS Machinery can customize:

  • Plug-in geometry
  • Mounting dimensions
  • Centerline position
  • Centered or offset mounting
  • Overall die cross-section
  • Tooling length
  • Segmentation

according to the customer's existing press brake and tooling system.
