Typical Applications

This 85° R0.5 narrow-tip gooseneck punch is designed for small and complex sheet metal components where both tooling clearance and a compact punch tip are required.

Typical applications include:

  • Small sheet metal components
  • Small brackets
  • Precision metal parts
  • Narrow flange bending
  • Compact sheet metal profiles
  • Offset bending
  • Box and channel bending
  • Return flange bending
  • Multi-step bending
  • Complex sheet metal forming
  • Electrical and electronic components
  • Small machinery components
  • Precision enclosures
  • Parts with previously formed flanges

Gooseneck Design for Collision Avoidance

One of the most important advantages of a gooseneck punch is the additional space created between the punch body and the workpiece.

During multi-step bending, the workpiece may already contain flanges, return bends, channels, or other formed features. A conventional straight punch can collide with these previously formed sections during the next bending operation.

The gooseneck structure creates an open clearance area around the workpiece, allowing existing formed sections to move into the available space.

This helps:

  • Reduce punch-to-workpiece collision
  • Increase clearance around existing flanges
  • Improve access to restricted bending areas
  • Reduce interference during multi-step bending
  • Improve flexibility when bending complex profiles

Narrow 6 mm Tip for Smaller Workpieces

The key difference between this product and our 9 mm tip gooseneck punch is the reduced tip width.

The tip width is reduced from 9 mm to 6 mm, creating a smaller working contact point. This makes the punch more suitable for small workpieces, narrow bending areas, and compact sheet metal components.

The trade-off is that the load capacity is reduced from 70 ton/m to 40 ton/m.

Therefore, the two configurations serve different applications:

  • 9 mm tip / 70 ton/m → higher load capacity and more general-purpose applications
  • 6 mm tip / 40 ton/m → smaller workpieces and narrower bending areas

This gives customers greater flexibility to select the appropriate gooseneck punch according to both workpiece size and required bending force.

The tooling can be manufactured for press brake applications involving major brands and tooling systems, including Amada, TRUMPF, LVD, Bystronic, and WILA, subject to the specific machine interface.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The punch is manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel, providing high strength, toughness, wear resistance, and durability for repeated press brake operations.

The working section is heat treated to approximately HRC 54 ± 2, helping maintain dimensional stability and wear resistance during production.

The combination of 85° angle, R0.5 tip radius, 6 mm tip width, and gooseneck geometry provides a specialized solution for smaller and more complex sheet metal components.

The 50 mm overall width provides the space required for the gooseneck structure, while the 6 mm tip maintains a compact working point.

The most important design consideration is the balance between accessibility and load capacity.

Reducing the tip width from 9 mm to 6 mm makes the punch more suitable for smaller workpieces, but it also reduces the rated load capacity to 40 ton/m.

Therefore, this tooling is intended for applications where smaller workpiece access is more important than maximum bending force.

Actual allowable bending force should always be evaluated according to material type, sheet thickness, bending length, die opening, bending method, and press brake specifications.

Standard & Custom Gooseneck Press Brake Tooling

We manufacture standard gooseneck punches and customized press brake tooling for different machine and workpiece requirements.

For small or complex components, standard tooling may not always provide sufficient clearance or accessibility.

Customers can send us their:

  • 2D workpiece drawings
  • 3D models
  • Bending drawings
  • Existing tooling drawings
  • Machine specifications
  • Workpiece samples

Our engineering team can provide a free press brake tooling design service and recommend the appropriate punch geometry.

Customization options include:

  • Overall tooling height
  • Total tooling width
  • Gooseneck depth
  • Gooseneck opening
  • Clearance geometry
  • Tip width
  • Tip radius
  • Punch angle
  • Tooling length
  • Special relief structures
  • Machine-specific mounting dimensions
  • Customized upper and lower tooling sets

For special workpieces, we can evaluate tool-to-workpiece interference, bending sequence, flange clearance, punch accessibility, and required bending force before manufacturing.

This allows us to provide a custom gooseneck punch designed around the actual workpiece geometry.
