Description

This WILA Type high-reach U-profile hemming punch is designed for forming and flattening narrow U-shaped sheet metal profiles. Its 200 mm working height provides extended reach for deep components and workpieces with tall side walls.

The 10 mm-wide working nose enters the customized lower-tool profile to form or flatten the folded sides of the component. Its 28° working angle supports deep pre-bending, while the R1 mm tip provides controlled bend-line positioning.

The displayed design is commonly used for approximately 1.2 mm sheet metal and has a maximum rated load of 100 ton/m. Manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel and hardened to HRC54±2, it provides reliable strength, wear resistance and forming accuracy.

All dimensions shown are reference specifications. The working height, nose width, punch angle, tip radius, mounting profile and matching lower tool can be customized according to the finished component.

The technical parameters above describe the displayed configuration rather than limiting the available product range. WYS Machinery can customize the height, width, angle, radius, mounting structure and matching lower-tool geometry.

Working Principle

The punch is normally used with a customized lower tool in a multi-stage U-profile forming process:

1. Pre-Bending

The 28° tip creates the acute bends required on both sides of the sheet-metal profile.

2. U-Profile Forming

The workpiece is formed to the specified U-shaped width and depth using the matched upper and lower tools.

3. Flattening

The folded portions are compressed to achieve the required final gap, reinforcement profile or closed condition.

The exact forming sequence depends on the finished workpiece. Some parts require separate pre-bending and flattening operations, while specially designed tooling can integrate multiple forming functions.

Typical Applications

This high-reach U-profile hemming punch is suitable for:

  • Forming narrow U-shaped folded profiles
  • Pre-bending and flattening approximately 1.2 mm sheet
  • Processing components with deep working positions
  • Bending inside high-sided boxes and enclosures
  • Producing reinforced or double-folded edges
  • Manufacturing deep channels and narrow profiles
  • Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
  • Metal doors and access panels
  • Machinery covers and protective guards
  • Automotive and transportation components
  • Appliance and metal-furniture parts
  • Mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium fabrication

The stated 1.2 mm sheet thickness is a typical application reference rather than an absolute limit. The appropriate tooling design depends on material strength, ductility, profile dimensions, bending length and required final gap.

Product Details & Manufacturing Quality

The punch is manufactured from selected 42CrMo alloy steel to provide the strength, toughness and fatigue resistance required for repeated forming. Its working area is hardened to HRC54±2 to improve resistance to wear and deformation.

Precision machining controls the 28° working profile, R1 mm tip and 10 mm nose width throughout the tool length. Accurate geometry supports consistent alignment with the customized lower tool and repeatable U-profile dimensions.

The H200 body provides greater reach than a conventional-height punch, while the rated load of 100 ton/m supports more demanding forming conditions. Nevertheless, the actual working force must remain within the capacities of the upper punch, matching lower tool, clamping system and press brake.
