Description
The 85 Series D Station RE30X65 Rectangular Thick Turret Tooling Set is engineered for punching nominal 30 × 65 mm rectangular openings on compatible CNC thick turret punch presses.
In the designation “RE30X65,” “RE” identifies the rectangular profile, while “30X65” represents the nominal width and length of the punching shape. Its relatively large cutting area makes it suitable for producing substantial rectangular openings in a single punching cycle, subject to the available machine tonnage and application conditions.
Unlike the individual replacement punches introduced in the RE2X20 and RE2X24 product pages, this product is supplied as a complete matched tooling set. It incorporates the upper punch assembly and the corresponding lower die required for the punching operation.
The punch is manufactured from M2 high-speed steel, while the matching die is manufactured from DC53 tool steel. The working components are heat-treated to HRC 58–60 to provide cutting-edge hardness, compressive strength, toughness and dimensional stability.
The actual lower-die opening is not fixed solely by the nominal RE30X65 designation. WYS Machinery selects and manufactures the cutting clearance according to the customer’s sheet material, material thickness, tensile strength, required burr level and punching conditions.
Optional TiN and TiCN coatings are available for applicable working components. Custom punch-tip geometry, die clearance, assembly configuration and special rectangular dimensions can also be manufactured according to customer drawings and machine information.

RE30X65 Profile and Die Clearance
RE30X65 identifies the nominal rectangular punching profile. The matching die opening must incorporate an appropriate cutting clearance and will therefore be larger than the corresponding punch dimensions.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Nominal Punching Profile | 30 × 65 mm rectangle |
| Nominal Profile Area | 1,950 mm² |
| Matching Die Opening | Punch profile plus selected total clearance |
| Clearance Selection | Based on material, thickness and tensile strength |
| Final Die Dimensions | Confirmed during tooling engineering |
WYS Machinery can customize the die clearance for:
- Mild steel
- Stainless steel
- Aluminum
- Galvanized sheet
- Copper and other suitable materials
- Different sheet thicknesses
- Different burr and edge-quality requirements
Correct clearance helps:
- Reduce peak punching force
- Improve material fracture and slug separation
- Control burr height
- Reduce stripping resistance
- Prevent premature punch and die wear
- Reduce the risk of corner chipping
- Maintain consistent rectangular-hole dimensions
- Extend total tooling service life
Punching Force and Machine Verification
Because RE30X65 has a considerably larger cutting perimeter than the previously published narrow rectangular punches, the required punching force should be calculated before production.
The required force depends on:
- Cutting perimeter
- Sheet thickness
- Material shear strength
- Punch-tip geometry
- Cutting clearance
- Machine condition
- Lubrication
A suitable shear profile may reduce peak punching force by allowing the cutting edges to engage the sheet progressively. However, the selected geometry must also consider slug behavior, part flatness and finished-edge requirements.
Customers should provide the punch press model, available tonnage, sheet material and thickness so that the tooling configuration can be evaluated before manufacturing.
Typical Hits Before Regrinding
| Sheet Material | Approximate Hits Before Regrinding |
|---|---|
| Stainless Steel | Approximately 300,000 hits |
| Mild Steel | Approximately 500,000 hits |
These figures are typical references rather than guaranteed limits. Actual regrinding intervals depend on material thickness, tensile strength, cutting clearance, punching force, coating, lubrication, machine alignment and maintenance.
For large rectangular tooling, all straight edges and corners should be inspected regularly. Regrinding should be performed before excessive edge rounding, corner damage or burr growth develops.
Typical Tool Service Life
| Tool Profile | Approximate Total Service Life |
|---|---|
| Round Tooling | Approximately 800,000 hits |
| Shaped Tooling | Approximately 600,000–700,000 hits |
| RE30X65 Rectangular Tooling | Refer to the Shaped Tooling Range |
RE30X65 is classified as shaped tooling. Its actual service life depends strongly on load distribution, machine tonnage, punch-to-die alignment, cutting clearance and timely regrinding.
Optional TiN and TiCN Coatings
TiN Coating
TiN provides a hard, low-friction surface that helps reduce adhesive wear and material buildup. It is suitable for many general-purpose mild-steel and sheet metal punching applications.
TiCN Coating
TiCN provides higher hardness and enhanced resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear. It is particularly suitable for stainless steel, higher-strength sheet materials and demanding production volumes.
Coating suitability should be evaluated according to the processed material, thickness, punching force and required tool life.
Typical Applications
The RE30X65 D Station rectangular tooling set is suitable for producing large rectangular openings in:
- Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
- Switchgear and power-distribution equipment
- Electronic equipment housings
- Sheet metal panels and covers
- HVAC and ventilation components
- Machinery guards and protective panels
- Automotive sheet metal components
- Appliance panels
- Metal furniture and storage systems
- Mounting plates and structural brackets
- General precision sheet metal fabrication
Typical hole functions include:
- Large cable-entry openings
- Connector and interface cutouts
- Ventilation openings
- Display and control-panel cutouts
- Component installation openings
- Rectangular access features
- Assembly and locating interfaces
- Functional cutouts in cabinets and enclosures
Manufacturing Quality
The RE30X65 tooling set is manufactured using selected tool steels, controlled heat treatment and precision machining.
Quality control focuses on:
- Accuracy of the 30 × 65 mm punch profile
- Parallelism of the long cutting edges
- Accuracy of the short edges
- Rectangular corner geometry
- Punch and die alignment
- Cutting-clearance consistency
- Punch-tip surface finish
- Die-opening dimensions
- Assembly concentricity
- Working height and tool setup
- Heat-treatment consistency
The punch and die are manufactured as a matched set to support uniform clearance around the complete rectangular profile. Accurate alignment helps reduce uneven wear and localized side loading.
Tool Maintenance and Regrinding
The tooling should be inspected regularly for:
- Cutting-edge rounding
- Corner chipping
- Uneven wear
- Material buildup
- Increased burr height
- Excessive stripping force
- Abnormal punching noise
- Punch and die misalignment
- Damage to guide or stripper components
Timely regrinding removes less material and preserves more usable tool length. After regrinding, the punch length, assembly settings and shut height should be checked before the tooling returns to production.
