Description

The 85 Series A Station SQ7 Square Thick Turret Punch Tooling is engineered for accurate and repeatable punching of 7 × 7 mm square holes. “SQ7” is the standard shape designation, in which “SQ” identifies the square profile and “7” represents the 7 mm side length.

Manufactured with an M2 high-speed steel punch and a DC53 tool steel die, this square punch and die set combines cutting-edge toughness, dimensional stability and resistance to chipping. The working components are heat-treated to HRC 58–60 for reliable performance in continuous sheet metal production.

The tool is suitable for compatible 85 Series thick turret punch presses and can be supplied with optional TiN or TiCN surface coatings. WYS Machinery also provides custom punch geometry, die clearance, tooling dimensions and special-shaped turret punch tooling according to the customer’s sheet material, thickness and finished-part drawings.

The figures above are typical reference values rather than guaranteed limits. Actual regrinding intervals and total tool life depend on sheet material, tensile strength, thickness, punch-to-die clearance, lubrication, machine alignment, punching speed, coating selection and maintenance conditions.

Optional TiN and TiCN Coatings

TiN Coating

TiN coating provides a hard, low-friction surface that helps reduce adhesive wear and improve the service life of the punch. It is a practical option for general-purpose punching of mild steel and other common sheet materials.

TiCN Coating

TiCN coating offers higher hardness and enhanced resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear. It is particularly useful for demanding applications involving stainless steel, higher-strength sheet materials or high-volume production.

The appropriate coating should be selected according to the processed material, sheet thickness, punching frequency and required tool life.

Typical Applications

The SQ7 A Station square punch tooling is suitable for producing small, accurate square holes in:

  • Electrical cabinets and control enclosures
  • Sheet metal housings and panels
  • Switchgear and distribution equipment
  • Electronic equipment cabinets
  • HVAC and ventilation components
  • Metal furniture and storage systems
  • Automotive sheet metal parts
  • Machinery covers and protective panels
  • General precision sheet metal fabrication

This tool can be used for holes required for square fasteners, locating features, assembly interfaces, ventilation layouts and other functional sheet metal designs.

Manufacturing Quality

The punch and die are manufactured using carefully selected tool steels, controlled heat treatment and precision grinding processes. Accurate alignment between the punch, guide and die helps produce clean square holes with consistent dimensions while reducing burr formation, uneven wear and the risk of corner chipping.

The M2 punch provides the toughness and red hardness required for repeated punching operations. The DC53 die offers high compressive strength, wear resistance and dimensional stability. Together, these materials provide a reliable tooling combination for high-volume thick turret punching applications.

Regular inspection and timely regrinding help maintain hole quality and maximize total tool life. Regrinding should be performed before excessive edge wear, chipping or burr growth occurs.
