The WYS LVD-type V100 lower die is a heavy-duty press brake tool designed for bending relatively thick sheet metal, large components and products requiring a wide V-opening.

It features a 100 mm V-opening, commonly designated as V100, together with the standard 78° groove angle widely used in LVD-style press brake tooling. This groove angle provides sufficient clearance for controlled overbending while maintaining versatility for common sheet-metal and plate-forming applications.

The die has an overall height of 169 mm, including a 150 mm effective working height, and an overall width of 130 mm. Its strong cross-section provides stable support for the large V-opening and a maximum rated load capacity of 180 ton/m.

A V100 opening is commonly considered for approximately 10–12 mm mild steel under general air-bending conditions. This is only a practical reference. Stainless steel, high-strength steel and other materials may require different bending forces, punch radii or V-opening selections.

Standard 78° LVD Groove Angle

The 78° V-groove is a standard and widely used angle in LVD-style lower tooling. Compared with a 90° groove, it provides additional angular clearance for overbending.

This allows the press brake operator to bend the material slightly beyond the required finished angle to compensate for elastic springback. When matched with a suitable upper punch and correct CNC settings, the die can be used to produce common final angles such as 90°.

The finished angle is determined by:

Punch penetration depth
Material properties
Plate thickness
Inside bend radius
Material rolling direction
Actual springback

The 78° design therefore provides a practical combination of standard compatibility, general versatility and springback compensation capability.

V100 Opening for Thick-Plate Air Bending

The 100 mm V-opening is designed for relatively thick sheet material and applications requiring a larger inside bend radius.

Compared with a narrower die opening, V100 can offer:

Lower required air-bending force
A larger natural inside bend radius
More gradual deformation of thick plate
Lower concentrated pressure at the die shoulders
Improved suitability for large structural parts

Because the V-opening is relatively wide, the workpiece must have a sufficiently long flange to remain securely supported on both die shoulders. The required minimum flange and expected inside radius should be checked before production.

The correct V-opening should be selected according to the material type, tensile strength, plate thickness, target bend radius, minimum flange and available press brake tonnage.

169 mm Overall Height for Increased Clearance

The die has a 150 mm effective body and a 19 mm lower mounting section, giving it a total height of 169 mm.

This high-profile structure raises the V-groove and bending line above the press brake table. The increased height provides additional space for large workpieces and previously formed flanges, helping reduce interference during multi-step bending.

It can be particularly useful when producing:

Products with long pre-bent flanges

Actual clearance must be verified using the complete workpiece drawing, bending sequence and upper-punch geometry.

Heavy-Duty 180 Ton/m Load Capacity

The 130 mm-wide body provides stable structural support for the V100 groove and helps distribute bending force through the lower tool.

The maximum rated load is 180 ton/m. Before bending, the calculated forming force must be compared with the allowable capacity of the lower die, upper punch, tool holders, clamping system and press brake.

The usable capacity may also be affected by:

Although a wide V-opening can reduce the required bending tonnage, the complete tooling and machine system must still be checked before production.

Product Details / Manufacturing Quality

The die is manufactured from 42CrMo alloy steel to provide high strength, good toughness and resistance to deformation under demanding bending loads.

The V-groove, supporting shoulders, reference surfaces and lower mounting tang are precision-machined to maintain accurate alignment and stable force transmission. Applicable working areas can be hardened to HRC54 ± 2 to improve wear resistance and extend tooling life.
